de Spotlight: Karen Lipker

As part of Women’s History Month, our very own Karen Lipker, Director of Print Production was asked to be a panelist for the event, “Women in Photography” sponsored by APA Los Angeles held at Santa Monica College on March 11th.

This inspiring event highlighted contributions of women in the industry and encouraged women to keep moving forward by opening up the conversation about overcoming obstacles in the industry, and putting a spotlight on pushing towards an even playing field.

Karen has always had a love for photography.

After getting her MFA in photography she quickly realized, however, that her strengths career-wise were in the business side of the photography and creative industries, and she left creating commercial images to the pros.

Starting off as a photo studio manager and then as assistant to a photo rep, Karen learned the ins and outs of the business and what it takes to make a really good photograph.

Karen then moved on to become a photo producer and spent years working at Getty Images developing and producing original creative content for the various collections. From there she went on to work for photographers producing shoots for clients such as Martha Stewart, Williams Sonoma, AT&T, Johnson & Johnson and more. Moving on to The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf Karen became the Sr. Manager of Global Creative Services and Print Production managing all projects in all phases from print to packaging to digital for all markets globally.  In August 2016 then Karen took the leap over to Davis Elen.

Circling back to photography, Karen still keeps her camera handy and loves to travel with it. Last year she had the opportunity to go on Safari in Tanzania and of course took over 2,000 photos and loved every minute of it.
